We boarded the matatu, very tired but equally happy. That had been yet another graduation ceremony , marking the end of our third boot camp. Seeing the children smile and the parents happily ululating as their children would be called to pick their certificate of completion and the children honored by the flowers around their necks was just part of what made us smile . This boot camp had been just as good as the other two, with its ups and downs, fun, jokes, games with our junior techs and long distance walks to the primary schools. But there is more…
The world has changed. We have technology evolving and slowly taking over a huge field. But as it is shifting, I’m afraid it has not always moved with everyone . Sadly, we do not have equal access to resources, which has made digital literacy in the rural areas a big problem. Even as the new education curriculum entails computer studies, there are children who are missing out on digital literacy skills and children are not exposed to what is happening around the world ,when we could have Tech-gurus, Computer scientists and many more that they would have never thought of.
Our dream has always been to impart digital literacy skills to kids in rural areas. We want them to have equal opportunities around the world, same as the kids in urban areas, hence the slogan:Bridging the gap.Our journey is barely at the beginning phase yet, but we have impacted the lives of 83 children in Uasin Gishu , Kesess constituency. From our first school in Moi University Primary to our Most recent in Ketiplong Primary, We have experienced children being transformed into the digital world and ending the boot camp with heartfelt impact stories. we are always going to relive those moments and make this world a better place for as many rural-based kids as possible.Together we will bridge the gap!
